Well, Santa-ing for Glenn's family went well tonight. The kids were thrilled, Glenn and his wife seemed to enjoy the experience, I enjoyed doing it, it was good.

Glenn's a customer who became a mate, so it was nice to be able to repay all the business (and friendship) he's given me with a visit from Father Christmas.

It was bloody hard though. Been crook all day, struggled to get ready, but once I was in the suit - POOF! I'm the man, and ain't nuthin' gunna stop me! I'm in character, and I'm goin' for it!

Had lots of people toot or wave at Kringle in his 1970 Holden, too, which I always enjoy.

Got home, stripped off the suit, and it was like Fearless Fly taking off his glasses, except a little slower. Back to feeling really, really substandard and ill.

But very, very happy!

Tomorrow I get to do it again, not for the person who won the eBay bid (don't get me started... grrrr....) but for someone who saw the eBay ad and contacted me. Looking forward to that :)

Over the last few days I've been gradually feeling slightly sicker every day. It's slightly annoying, especially as I'm feelin' particularly RS today, and I'm going to be Santa-ing tonight and tomorrow.

Mind you... gunna love playing Father Christmas no matter how sick I feel. May even wander the neighbourhood in costume tonight after I get back, depending on how the heat has hit me.

Mind you, even though I feel blah, the video below is made of awesome and has cheered me right up. I think it's the joyous laughter at the end :)

So, today I've had a nice little outlandish coincidence.

As is the norm, before Lex went down to sleep, he wanted a book read for him. I usually let him choose, but I was tired, so I chose. In amongst the books was a copy of the Little Golden Book of Pinocchio. I remembered mum telling me that it was my favourite book as a child, and that I always drove her nuts by wanting her to read it to me again and again. In the last week or so I've been watching back some of the Ninth Doctor stories, and it hit me - I was enjoying the show a lot more than I have been over the last year or so. ( Major spoilers for Waters of Mars )

So today I just decided to take half a day's annual leave and take David and his friends to Paintball! They had it planned for about a week but when I was looking at the transport options - two buses and a train - I figured I would just drive him out there. Had it been on my side of Brisbane I might have used my lunch hour to drop him off and picked him up after work but it was the other side. So, I took half a day and spent it out there with a bottle of water and sat in the cool breeze with my book. It was fabulous!

He had so much fun! It was expensive (I think I spent about $120?) but he had received $100 from my Mum for his Christmas present so that helped.

I figured it was okay to upload the photos of the friends he went with because you can't see their faces!

In other news, I've been invited to two New Years Eve parties! The one I've rsvp'ed to is a kid-friendly pool party at which I expect about 12 other teenagers, probably about 40 adults, including most of my girlfriends and their partners and kids so it should be a great night. I'm pretty sure David will come with me - he's certainly invited - see how he feels I guess.

Christmas Day will be opening one present each and then having Christmas lunch with my lovely 70yo neighbour who is cooking roast for us. :)

Today I feel like I expected to feel straight after getting my teeth out, or perhaps the next day. Migrainy, sensitive to light, sound, and touch (sheets hurt! Sharon's hair brushing against my arm hurts!). There was a touch of this yesterday, and today is notably worse.

And it's affecting my mood in surprising and unexpected ways. Not bad, as such, just odd enough where I'm going, "Huh? Why am I feeling like that?" and wanting to send lengthy emails to a couple of people talking about my mood, partially because I'm finding it curious.

Oh well, time for more painkillers and to go back to resting in the dark.

One of the things I've become conscious of in recent months is my priorities. They haven't changed, I'm just aware of them now.

While my health and fitness has improved slowly but steadily since the stroke, I still have a fairly limited amount of spoons, and even when I'm doing well, it doesn't take much to steal them all if I'm not careful. I've been tending to beat myself up a bit for not getting things done, but then recently I realised how it is I work my limited resources. ( Read more... )

Can you tell I was woken at stupid o'clock and haven't been able to get back to sleep?

Anyway, I have two requests.

1. Can anyone point me towards something I can embed in LJ that will play audio files when people click on it? Basically I'd like to be able to put up some select soundgrabs and such. So far my searches for something that would be quick and easy and free have amounted to nothing, but I'm not necessarily terribly awake or with it.

2. I'm looking for a Canberra (or nearby) based geek girl, preferably with a nice pair of geek girl glasses, for a photoshoot idea. Costume would ideally be fur bikini ala Raquel Welch in One Million B.C.. Is this you, or a friend? Contact me for details. No money, but a full set of photos from the shoot would be provided.

Would also be happy with the right looking geek boy, though he wouldn't be in a bikini, of course.
